Default Installing keyless entry and remote start 2002 Dakota

I'm looking at installing a keyless entry and remote start unit on my 2002 Dakota. It has factory power windows and locks, but as far as i can tell no factory keyless entry. I'm partial to viper systems, and wanted to know if there is one kit that will do both, or if i have to do a separate keyless entry module then the viper remote start kit.

Or would this be something that should be taken to a shop to do. I have decent experience in wiring up radios in cars, haven't done a remote start/keyless entry yet.

Any help/ideas is appreciated.

I've never attempted it, but know a guy who once owned a shop that installed them. He hired anyone he could find and they hacked things until they worked. I am VERY leery about getting something done, unless the shop has extremely high recommendations. Something tells me you should be able to DIY. Having a wiring diagram would probably be the only criteria before starting.

Is there a forum for that sort of installation? A Viper forum perhaps?

My '01 has the PW and locks but it also came with a factory remote lock/alarm on the key FOB. I'm relocating to colder climes and am considering a remote starter for my truck and my wife's Outback but that will be a spring project.

I did an aftermarket keyless entry system on my '02. It wasn't too difficult, I had it done in an afternoon (only 2 doors).

Then later I added a car alarm that had an override function for the keyless. That took me three days of pulling my hair out and two calls to their tech support line.

If you already have the servos in place for the locks, you can just tap into the wiring to control them through the keyless system. Adding those servos and getting them lined up properly was half the battle for me.
