I have a 98 dakota 3.9 5 speed rwd and I was looking to put a 5.9 in it. I have been looking at different forms but they all turn into an argument. From the looks of it people say I can use my tranny and rear end. So do I have to find a motor from the same year 98 or no. Do I have to use a 98 dakota rt pcm or can I use a different year or out of a ram. And the the harness have to be from a dakota. I would really like to do the swap buthe I want to figure everything out before I buy the stuff
The harness is easy to modify/make based on the V6 harness. Yes you'll need a 98 V8 PCM (5.9 ideally, a 5.2 will work with help of a tuner to fatten it up a hair). Year of the engine doesn't matter as long as it's 97 or newer.
