Default Floor shifter possibilities?

Hey all, I am kicking around the idea of building a custom center console for my dak and doing a column shifter delete and was wondering, could I use a floor shifter from another vehicle that also had the 42re trans?

I know some of the 6 cyl grand cherokees and early Libertys (I think) used the 42re and had floor shifters. I like the look of those more than the aftermarket floor shifters that are currently available. Plus, I think they would be easier to integrate with the design I have in mind for the console.

Also, do I have to restrict myself to just vehicles with the 42re or will other transmission shifters work by modifying the shift lever on the trans?
