Default help installing aftermarket alarm and keyless remote entry rke

HI,

I am a new member and I have a 2001 Dodge Dakota 4 door with a 4.7 motor.

I am trying to figure out how to install an aftermarket alarm and keyless remote entry system.

My 2001 Dakota already has the factory installed remote keyless entry. The FOB/Remote Keyless Entry system stopped working and I decided on installing the Scytek Astra A20 rke/alarm system. (note - my dakota uses the black key) My locks are working just fine using the door panel lock/unlock buttons. And I am not going to try and fix the FOB issue.......I will be installing an aftermarket alarm system.

There is a lot of discussion on the web about how to install an aftermarket alarm system but it is lacking some details. Here are a few question.

1. Do I need relays for the lock and unlock trigger wires? Some posts said yes and others say no. Some say maybe. Does anyone have a definitive answer?

2. Do I need to diode isolate the lock and unlock features? Again the answers I found researching the question said "yes, no and maybe"

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

I leave stuff like this up to professional installers. Good luck.

I second that. Or why not get what you have fixed. By the time you mess around with some after market thing you would be money ahead by fixing theOE system.

This is a forum to ask questions. Yours was a non-response.

Perhaps we should respond to all threads with "take it to the experts"

To summarize I have the following questions.

1. Do I need relays for the lock and unlock trigger wires? Some posts said yes and others say no. Some say maybe. Does anyone have a definitive answer?

2. Do I need to diode isolate the lock and unlock features? Again the answers I found researching the question said "yes, no and maybe"

Any technical assistance would be great appreciated.
