Default Changing out 2004 dakota oil pressure sender 4.7L

I've got a 2004 Dakota, 4.7L engine. Do I have to drain the oil before I change our the oil pressure sender?

I've heard it both ways.

1. Oil will pour out if I don't.

2. It's in a separate well and won't leak out.

Any help?

Thanks.

No need to change the oil. The sender sits just above your oil filter. The oil is at a lower level, sitting in the oil pan. You might lose a small amount, so set a pan there anyway. Some say you'll need a special tool, but I changed mine with a small channel lock.
