Just swap you sensors over. Alot of them should actually be the same. The motor will have 2 water temp sensors, one for the dash and one for the OBD1, they were combined when OBDII went to electronic dash. You can leave the extra in the manifold or stab a 1/8" pipe plug in it. EGR can be blocked off, I think it's a 1/2 or 3/4 pipe thread.

Hey guys got the 318 and got it stripped down to the block and heads. All went well mostly except for the intake removal ended up leaving me with 3 broken bolts. All the normal bolts came out but the 4 guide studs front and back broke as soon as i torqued the nut. Two broke one bent. And the other broke but fell out??? I was wondering, if by chance i cant get the bolts out with a bolt extractor kit. Do you guys think i could get by with some gasket sealant there? Since its got the 6-8 other bolts in it? Im not one for jack legging but im just weighing my options. Hopefully the bit tap set brings it right out...

They should pop out with an EZ-out. My junkyard motor had all 4 motor mount bolts sheared off in the block, I got 3 of the 4 out. Intake should be easy. Or say screw it and put a set of EQ heads on out of the box. This is why I asked for a shortblock quote from the junkyard, the stock heads are usually cracked so I'll put my own heads on.... $200 was the quote I got.

Yeah i hope they come out. I see what you mean by just replacing the heads instead. In a perfect world id love too but cheapest i saw was $1000 for Edelbrock. And then reviews had people complaining of valve movement issues. Do u know of any other cheaper and may be better heads??? Im unfamiliar with "EQ" heads? I was only gonna do HS 1.7 rockers and either stock or small cam but these 3 broken bolts may make me go all out haha.

Enginequest is a stock replacement head manufacturer. Alot of people use them. I think it's $500 a side or something like that for the 2.02 heads. It's the same casting that Hughes uses for their overpriced IronRam heads. They come as both magnum and LA intake manifold patterns, you have to make sure you get the right one.

Okay yeah after talking to you I looked them up. They were designed to fix the flaws in the factory heads. Pretty cool and ppl seem to like them. I have a magnum motor, so that's the ones I'd get correct?

yes, you want the ones with the magnum intake pattern. CH318AA . They were designed around the 5.2/318 but the 5.2/5.9 use the same heads.

The AA suffix is for Magnum Assembled. The BA Suffix is for LA Assembled.

Okay thanks. Looks like no matter which heads I’d get I’ll be spending at least $1000. Do you think EQ heads are the best for the money?

$1000 per side or $1000 total.... I would go with the EQ's myself. Aluminum heads on magnum blocks tend to have "issues" which most people will not see. I know 2 people doing aluminum head swaps and neither has been off a jackstand since about last July....because they are doing it right.

$1100-1400 for the EQ heads for the pair. Higher end for the 2.02 version. That’s at Hughes engine. I some ppl like him some don’t but if He didn’t actually make The heads i don’t see where there be problems. Since the heads cost pretty much more than anything else on the build. What do u think about me getting a mild cam and double roller chain for the time being. There’s no reason I have to have the heads at the same time right? And any cam recommendations? I wanna use the hs 1.7 rr too so between the cam and the rr I can only have like .550 lift max right? Due to clearance issues...
