Default Pwr st pump pressure..

Hey guys, does anybody know if theres a difference in pump pressure with rack and pinion vs the older gearbox setup?? or would you run the same pump for either setup??

Yes there is a difference. I don't know which direction. The only change is the outlet oriface that screws into the pump ( back of Saginaw P pump, top/side of Saginaw T2/TC pump ). These are sometimes brazed into the housings on cheap repro pumps and cannot be easily changed. High end pumps are removable and replaceable for fine tuning.

Thanks magnethead, basically my dilemma is this, when i did my solid front axle swap on my 2001 dakota, i converted from rack and pinion back to the gearbox
for the steering, yes it works and i do have pwr steering, but, its never been to impressive, almost like i need more pump pressure, so im wandering if i buy
a pump from a 1998 dakota ( gearbox steering) If i would have more pump pressure then??

It's possible. Call my buddy Josh at Steerco Performance ( (817) 626-9006 ), he builds custom pumps and can tell you what you need/can change. Look at the outlet on the pump you have, it's a Saginaw P Pump if it looks like a teardrop, outlet is at the bottom. Should be two hex nuts- one for the oriface tube going into the pump, and one for the outlet hose going into the oriface tube.
