Default Blower motor not running, but power at connector. Read on.

Blower motor stopped blowing. Prior to it quiting i smelled something like electrical burning. When it finally quit I checked to make sure it had power at the connector under the dash. It had power so I ordered a new blower motor. New blower motor does not run either. I tested the connector again and when running there is about 13.8 volts. Turn fan off and no power. Did I get a bad blower motor? Or is something else wrong? 2002 Quad 4WD 194K in miles.

the system is probably ground controlled. This configuration supplies power to the blower when the key is in run. providing grd determines if the system runs or not.

If you jumper grd to the other wire at the fan the fan should work. The grd wire from the blower motor goes to the blower resisitor them to the blower switch. check for continuity through the grd wire to these devices...one of them is probably open. my bet is the resistor is melted...check the connector at the resisitor.

I checked the resister and replaced. Discovered plug is bad. Ordered one on Amazon. I could get the blower to work by jiggling the connector.

I've had the blower motor resistor go bad a couple of times in my 2003 Grand Caravan. I know from previous experience that this is the problem when there are only 1 or 2 of the 4 fan settings working. Last couple of times, only the high speed worked. It seems that the high speed setting is a 'back up default' for the resistor going bad ....it still leaves you with one fan speed, and the highest one at that. This has to be a VERY common issue with Caravans: ..rather than paying full retail, plus shipping, I get my replacements at a pick and pull wrecking yard, and on my last hunt, I had to check 15 vans before I found one that still had a resistor in it!! This is a very basic piece of electro / mechanics (I'm talking about the style with the metal cage) ..and should be simple DIY repair with a soldering gun. Is anyone aware of such a repair procedure? I no electronics geek, but I know which end of a soldering iron to hold onto!!

The resister usually fails because the fan motor bearings are worn and dragging causing the motor to draw too much current. If you replace the resister only, it will probably fail again pretty soon. Recommend replacing the fan motor anytime resister fails. Sad experience talking here.

My blower only worked on high speed then nothing. Changed resistor $50 but still didn't work. Changed the control module (2nd hand $100) on the bezel and now it works only on the 2 low speeds. What next . Any ideas.

I'm in the processing of fixing this issue AGAIN on my 2003 Grand Caravan. Replaced the resistor with a known-good used one, but it lasted only about 10 days before defaulting to only the highest speed. I ordered a replacement fan motor assembly from RockAuto for a VERY reasonable price. Like REOMACK, I'm betting on a worn out motor producing too much resistance (340,000 kms on the van). I think the proper order of diagnosis would be 1) fuse; 2) fan motor resistor); 3) fan motor ....before going after any expensive control modules, etc. BUT ....I would still like to find out if the resistor (metal cage type) is repairable ...any takers??
