Question Help removing lower control arm

Hey everybody. I am trying to replace the front driver side lower control arm on my 01 Dakota and am confused as to how to remove it from the strut/coil. I have removed all the bolts and it is just hanging loose but resting on the two metal parts of the strut that have holes for the bolts. It looks like the opening of the control arm is smaller than said metal part of the strut so do I have to get one side through and then the other? Also how do I safely deal with the coil? Do I need to get a compressor on there somehow?

Thanks in advance for the help
