Dome lights and radio.
Hi guys, I own a 95 Eagle Talon TSi AWD. My friend just bought a 1997 V8 Dakota RWD. Anyways I was installing a CD player for him yesterday. After I hooked all the wires up I gave it a try. It worked very nicely until I plugged in the antenna cable to the cd player. As soon as I hooked it up, the radio turned off and so did the dome lights in the car. Now I know it is likely a fuse, but I dont have alot of time for this tomorrow so I would like to know if I need to buy him a new fuse before I go over there tomorrow and fix it.
So my question is; do you guys think I blew the fuse in the truck or the fuse in the cd player? Also where is the fuse for the radio and dome lights in the truck?
Thanks guys.
Also possible reasons for the blown fuse would be appreciated as well. I think its just a bad ground, but I'll have to see tomorrow.

Yep its probably a fuse, I had the same thing happen in my mustang. fuse blew and the radio and lights didnt work.
Start with fuse 18......my truck is a 2001 so it might be a lil different.

Were you using the factory style wiring harness connectors? Or cut those off and did the wiring yourself? If the former, I don't see how you would have a short and would look to something with the new player as being faulty...
If it blows the fuse again, try the old radio for a bit to help isolate if it is the new radio, old radio or common to the wiring in the vehicle...
