i have a 98 dodge dakota 3.9 v6 5 speed 2x4 and i want to know if it would work. My engine died on me and if any one knows if it is possibile let me know please, cause i'd like to put on in my truck thanks

 

Yes it will work ... how easily and expensive it would be ... I dunno -- But It'll work

 

I'm not sure about engine mounts, but I sure the pcm and wiring won't work. Something else you might check is the exhaust y-pipe.

 

It is a pretty simple swap (Opinion Only) The engine mounts should be the same. The only problems would be putting in a new pcm and wiring harness for the 318 swap. Also, your fuel pump would be an issue. You may have to put a different one in place of the stock unit. Lastly your transmission.... your 3.9 transmission should bolt up to the 318, but the AX-15, which i believe is the tranny you have, probably will not be able to handle the abuse if you "hot-rodded" it. You may have to swap it out for the nv3500 and that should be a simple in\out swap. I also agree with tenntech on the y pipe.

My tech told me that a wrist pin came out and messed up a cylinder. He said just to get a new engine.

 

Here's my opinion of your swap idea.....$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

These things always cost more than you think and may or problably will not go smooth (just my opinion)
Here's what I would do, go to wrecker, get cheapest V-6 you can find, slap in truck, sell or trade for Dakota with V-8.
