Default 2002 Dakota Engine compatibility

I am a first time Dodge owner. I bought a 2002 Dodge Dakota with a 4.7. 8th vin number is “N” the motor is seized up. I heard that Grand Cherokee, Durango and Dodge 1500 truck are only compatible from 2001-2002. Is this true? I’m pretty handy with cars been working of them since age 13, 31 now. Would love to do it myself just need to know if I can put in a 99 Grand Cherokee in my 2002 Dakota.

Does your PCM have 3 connectors? If so, it is the 1999 to 2002 16 tooth engine. If it has 4 connectors, it is the 2003 to 2008 32 tooth engine. The PCM connector count should match the donor vehicle as well, ideally (3 connector or 4 connector on both donor and recipient)
