3.9 liter swap to a 2.5l possible?

I have a 97 Dakota 4x4 with a 3.9 and I wanted to see if the 2.5 would match up to my transmission or what I could do to put the smaller engine in

It will be an uphill climb, in too many ways to make the swap worth it.

Rebuilding your 3.9 would be a better choice and the same price.

Just pull it rebuild it install it you can always install .040 over pistons and install a mild cam for a power boost.
