I have a 2001 QC 4.7 and I just got a set of ceramic coated Flowtech(made by Hooker) shorty headers from Summit Racing for $349.00 They are a direct bolt in item. Don't go used (if you could even find them) you're looking for headaches.
hey brian, thanks for the advice and information! but i have a couple of questions for you. with your headers, have you had any trouble yet with leaks and did you hook them up yourself, or did you take it to a shop to have them do it? -thanks
the headers are not in yet but i'm taking it to a shop on monday. looks like an ugly job without a hoist. I was quoted $175 to install. money well spent I'll bet. I'll let you know how it turns out.
hey brian2171;
just wondering how your headers turned out? from all the research i've been doing on the internet, i think i might go with the ceramic coated flowtech headers as well---everything about them i like. a friend of my try telling me that with the headers, that it will cause your check engine light to come on because of the exhaust sensor? just wondering if you have had any sort of trouble yet? thanks dude!

I'm back and I'm smiling!
Got my headers in and they are swEEEEEEt. Look really good in there. I went to the shop who put in my duals cause I like their work and their pricing is fair (having a good relationship with your shop guys is a must! If you clash with the management you will not get a good deal). So anyhow I'm glad I took it to them (I was stuck there so I watched the whole job) because it was an ugly job. They put it on the hoist, front tires off, inner fender wells out and then access wasn't TOO bad. There were a couple of glitches along the way. He got them all bolted up and did a test fire only to find a leak around the small port at the back on the drivers side (for EGR or something?) so he had to pull that side off, weld on a bit more metal and grind it flat, problem solved. Then on the passenger side the fender well was up against the header pipe so he carved it out a bit, minor problem solved. In the end he was working on it for a good 4 hours and only charged me $160 labour (money well spent for professional work). Yes I went in there yesterday to snug down the header bolts (do it on a stone cold motor) and I tell you....I was cursing immediately! My hat is off to that muffler guy, some of those bolts are just horrible (I found a box end wrench was the ticket....). Another thing was I kinda had to sweet talk them into doing it because their policy is no customer supplied parts so keep that in mind (doesn't hurt to bring doughnuts or beer). Final result.....AWEsome. I think it may be part mental but I'm sure I got a bit more power and it's too soon to tell on gas mileage but I'm pretty sure my foot will cancel out any gains there....
Flowtech ceramic coated (silver in colour and very cool)
had a plate stamped on that read " HOOKER SUPER COMPETITION"
I was told by Summit that Hooker bought out Flowtech so EVEN BETTER!!
Gotta go drive.... somewhere.......
