Default New to me 2nd gen 2001 dakota

So I picked up an 01 dakota sport 4x4 quad cab with a 4.7l. While I know the Durango and this dakota share a lot of parts, what year and models have the same pcm/engine harness? Apparently the previous owners mechanic cooked the original and had some sort of small fire (only the intake and the electrical harness were marred up) I looked at the parts listing in the faq but it's hard to discern which harness I'm looking for. I have a 92 dakota le but things were far less complicated in terms of wiring and usually it's problem is something easier to mix n match

For the engine harness, you're limited to 2000, 2001, and 2002 with the 4.7 engine. The PCM will have 3 plugs on it. 2003+ 4.7 uses a 4 plug PCM.

This also applies to the physical engine. 2000-2002 use 16 teeth on the reluctor ring, while 2003+ uses 32 teeth on the reluctor ring. Neither the elecrical harness nor the physical engine will interchange across the boundary.

If the block was good and thye only changed the plastic intake, then hopefully you just need the top of the harness for the coil packs and fuel injectors.

Does this also apply to the Durango and maybe jeep as well?

correct. It was a change across the board. 16 tooth 3-connector PCM is JTEC, 32 tooth 4-connector PCM is NGC. The dakota/durango harness is application specific though, I don't think the 4.7 ram or jeep have the PCM in the same spot.

Any thoughts on if the jeep or Durango harness Will work for my application if it's another 4x4 4.7l model?

No, 4x4 harness will not work. Has to be same drive configuration.

Dakota and Durango have the PCM on passenger fender. Ram has it on the firewall I believe. Not sure where the Jeep has it.

If yours is 2001 4.7L automatic (45RFE) 2WD with 3 PCM connectors, then your only 100% compatiable option is 2000-2002 4.7L automatic (45RFE) 2WD with 3 PCM connectors.

OK, then the 4x2 harness will not work. I missed that in your OP.

If yours is 2001 4.7L automatic (45RFE) 4WD with 3 PCM connectors, then your only 100% compatiable option is 2000-2002 4.7L automatic (45RFE) 4WD with 3 PCM connectors.
