Default Sticky fuel guage/sending unit

I have a 01 3.9 6cyl automatic an once in a while after restart the fuel guage doesnt move.I restart it an it seems fine again..happened just 2. times in the last month ,an one was after fill up..
It also seems the low fuel light comes on a tad bit earlier than it used to.
I'm getting a hidden code that indicated fuel sending unit error ...Reset an restart an all clear for weeks..
Is the float in fuel sending unit getting worn contacts or maybe corroded ,
an will adding some marvel mystery oil or seafoam help with lubricating it?
I hope not to have put a whole new fuel pump assembly in it .
Any info is appreciated

replacing the fuel pump can be done DIY at home but can be tough depending on if you have the time and tools.
A shop will charge around $800 and up a new pump $120 and up.

my pump died in the middle of summer with 110 degrees heat I elected to pay a shop $800, plus at 63 that kind of stuff is not on my want to do list anymore.

Yea but it's not effecting pump yet at all.
Yes I've replaced one on a different dakota years ago.Its a pain.
I'll just monitor guage ..So far nothing, an it's working No codes .,Guage working fine with MMO..But I'm not sure it's done anything since this doesnt happen often enough ,.
Thanks

Maybe you could open it up and clean/check everything, but all that effort means you might as well replace with new pump. I don't know how long lasting aftermarket pumps are though. My OEM is still going with over 306K. Depends on how much it bothers you. Sounds like something you can live with, if it's not affecting the ability to run. You can zero the trip meter/s and fill up every 200 miles or so, to ensure you never run out of gas.
