Default Issues with cv axle

Welp, the old dak is in the shop again and Im in another loaner vehicle.

My truck seems to keep eating the cv axles at the plunge joint where it meets the front dif, it only happens in 4x4 and I dont have to turn sharp, but as soon as i turn it seems like the front end of the truck seizes up and then BANG it lets go and my cv is dangling down and banging against a control arm.

Any ideas? is my dif shot?
Might be worth mentioning that only the CV on the passenger side is busting

yes sounds like a possible spider gear failure. Passenger axle breaks because it is longer and thus has more torsional load.

Well darn. That sounds not so minty.

Could I have just gotten unlucky with my replacement axle? I got it from a scrapyard cause no way was I paying $900 for a new one from chrysler. My first one i figure did fail at the axle because I do alot of offroading so the boot probably wore and then the join failed.

But if its the diff ill probably be gettin rid of the dak

More than likely you can just pull the cover and carrier, swap the spider gears, and reinstall. The ring and pinion should be fine. And doing that can be a driveway job (albeit cramped) since there's nothing special about pulling and replacing the carrier as-is, and only pulling the cross-pin.

Prolly still get rid of it. Just got a brand new front end 2 years ago.
