Wild vents, the redneck way
98 Dakota 2.5L my baby is classic now lol
For a number of reasons the fan defaults to blow out of the defrost vent. Checking the usual vacuum hoses and leaks, the one way valve, the "box" (additional vacuum) i cant find any issue but im not a mechanic either.
Today on this corona tues im not doing anything so i finally muster up the motivation to drop the dash. Its intimidating as fart but not too bad after finding the right spots. THANKS @98DAKAZ on this post that gave me insight and courage https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...h-removal.html
I still dont know what the true cause is. Im guessing the actuator itself or some random leak on these lines. The other actuators are working. This particular actuator looked like a whole other level of taking **** apart. Maybe one day ill find a new **** and line, at least that isnt too bad to get too and test. Staring at my pile of mess I had a stroke of redneck genius :
now seeing whats actually back there, pondering, i was channeled a manual workaround. The "door" that is stuck (closed) forcing air to defrost is located in such a way i can drill a hole and access it very easily with a wooden dowl.
Directly behind the cigarette lighter is the airbox and then the "door". I removed the cigarette lighter (wasn't using it anyway) and drilled a hole directly behind it. I insert a dowl or rod and can now push the door open to make air to flow out the vents...ahhh ac finally.... With the dowl cut to length, it can be pushed behind the hole of the cigarette lighter so it isn't seen. At the one time of the year when i need to defrost the window, i pop the dowl out. Dont drill the hole blindly, take that panel off and then drill.
I know under heavy load or acceleration is supposed to go to defrost by design but in this case, I dont know what will happen. Maybe lower mpgs?
