00 dakota abs light and brake light
I just bought a Dakota 00 v6 2wd. it has abs light and brake light on. at first I noticed the light would always be on. I went on a long drive and light turned off for about 3 miles randomly. came back on and been on. I checked the speed sensor on top of differential and it was bad. replaced it unplugged the battery and hit the brakes for awhile to drain system. I started truck up and now both lights turn off for about 5-8 seconds and then they light back up. any ideas? I've been trying to get my hands on scanner to read abs codes but no luck on getting one yet that will read codes.
You'll need a Snap-On Modus, MT2500, DRB-3, or similar to access ABS codes.
On the driver's fender between the fuse box and the master cylinder, do you have a 4-wheel-ABS unit with 6 brake lines pointing up, or a 2-wheel-ABS unit with 4 lines, 2 up and 2 down? You should have the latter.
If so, it's super easy to defeat for testing purposes.
1) Unplug the center electrical connector (shuttle valve) on the proportioning valve
- Check lamp status. When triggered, the shuttle valve grounds this fault wire to illuminate a lamp.
If light remains illuminated:
2) Remove the metal shields of the ABS module (they pop off)
3) Using the most inappropriate device you can find, remove the two PITA nuts retaining the solenoid pack
4) Unclip the center connector, then lift the solenoids off the pintles
-check lamp status.
Somewhere I have the wiring diagram for the ABS module and prop valve.
I'm 90% certain that proportioning is fault-grounded and ABS is fault un-grounded. It might be the other way around.

it's 2 wheel abs, I looked in the front and there was no wires or anything just brake lines. I did mess with that module from what I remember I unplugged the smaller plug both lights still were on, when I unplugged the bigger connector the brake light when off and just abs light was on. i drove around the block with both unplugged but the speed tack didn't move. i will do those steps tomorrow to find out what it does thanks
