Manual trans 4.7 Dak Sport. I’ve had loads of 4wd problems, and have become adept at replacing motors and computers. So finally it put itself in A sort of in between 4wd. Switch lights up. I put in a new blue computer, and when switch to 2 wed it’s the same. I hear the motor trying to disengage the transfer case. Which is the same behavior before the computer switch. It tries 3 times, then quits and the svc 4wd light comes on. I tried a new motor, and same thing. It wants to switch to 2wd, tries 3 times and quits .
any ideas? I don’t need 4wd. Can I disable it? I tried just removing the trans case motor, but then I have no transmission.

Are you slightly rolling when you try to change modes? I dont recall if the 4x4 case requires standing still, or a slight roll with trans in forward.

 

I tried moving and stopped. I ended up solving it by finding a good motor, just hanging by wires, and setting it to 2wd. That showed me how the nub on the transfer case should be aligned for 2wd, and I put the motor back in. It may not be a forever fix, and I’ll only try 4wd in true emergency, but for now it’s running.
