Installed aftermarket radio and now speedometer doesn't work
SOLVED
I just removed the factory radio, installed a new aftermarket radio from crutchfield, and now the speedometer isn't working and is pegged at 120+mph. I pugged back in all wiring harnesses, including the 2 for HVAC and the 1 dimmer switch left of the steering wheel. What on earth could have happened?
Worth noting is that during the install I did have to start up the car and put it in first gear, then shut off the car in order to remove the dash bezel and to get it over the shifter column. I also disconnected the negative battery terminal. The radio is working great. But I can't help but think there has to be a relationship between the radio install process and the speedometer.
Edit: I did some searching and found this:
1. Ignition switch off
2. Press and hold the trip reset ****
3. Turn the ignition switch to on but do not start.
4. Hold the reset **** for approx 10 seconds
the dash panel will go through a self check
This resolved the issue and reset the speedometer.
