2nd gen Dakota "deeply underrated."
Nice 2019 article with some cool videos. I tend to agree, but of course, I'm partial.

I agree 100% under rated mid size truck the first two years of the 2nd gen had a number of problems but by 2000 it had made quality upgrades and by 2002 even more improvements I would say the 2002 to 2004 were the best of the 2nd gen Dakotas.

You've never owned one. You need to go ahead and get one. Satisfy your curiosity.
I say 2003-2004... better brakes. Rear discs. Tow package with heavy duty cooling is a big plus for longevity, IMHO.
