Default 2004 v8 Starting issue

About a week ago had a shop replace the oil pan they also replaced the timing tensioners and timed the engine its the V8. Started fine.

I noticed in the last few days the the gages said they battery was towards the H on the gage didn't think anything about it.

Drove normal yesterday. Then when I tried to start it would not turn over. Tried to jump it but when tried to connect the jumper cables there was sparks when the cables touched the positive side of the battery on my truck.

Went to Walmart and got a replacement battery there were two options but I got the same size battery that was in the truck for over the last 5 years.

Still will not turn over.

I am thinking starter and starter clinoid.

Silly question. You said it sparked. When you connected the jumper cables, was it positive to positive, or negative to positive?

Exactly what does it do when you turn the key to start position. Does it crank at all, or just click? If it clicks, is it a series of fast clicks or single click?

The cables were connected to the other battery in the other car. The negative cable was connected to my battery. The spark came when I tried to connect the positive.

The truck cranked like the battery was dead after the new battery was put in the truck. I did not try and jump the new battery though. So gonna do that this morning.

It's normal for there to be a small bit of sparking when you hook up the last cable clamp. What I was trying to get at is... did you connect positive to positive and negative to negative? That's how they should be connected.

Thanks for the help. Turns out the thermostat was bad and was liking water which caused starting issues. I replaced the connectors to the batter cables and cleaned the cables and the truck starts fine.
