Angry 2001 Dakota 4x4 stuck in 4hi

Long time lurker. I've scoured the forums for answers. We've done everything we can to get our truck out of 4wd:
1-Checked all fuses. All good but replaced anyway.
2-Replaced the Transfer Case motor
3-Replaced the transfer case
4-replaced the TCCM

None of the above have resulted in the tranny switching out of 4wd. Very confused.
This is the electronic dash dial switch. We even swapped out the switch.

We start the truck, try to switch it from 4hi to 2wd. It clicks a few times, like it's trying to switch. No go. Then the check 4wd light comes on and we have to shut down again.
Tried switching while moving slowly. Same result. Clicks underneath but won't change.
Tried putting it in to Neutral. Same thing. Clicks like it's trying to change, no go.

We are at a loss.

Any ideas appreciated.

Electronic 4x4 usually has a solenoid in the front differential. Was that replaced?

Yes, we replaced the solenoid.

We've spent way too much time and money on this truck to this point. I have decided I don't like the looks of the super tight wiring running to the transfer case, so I'm making my own wiring that eliminates the tight bends and possible breaks. If that works I'll be happy and mad at the same time.

Is it possible to unhook the shift motor and see if the linkage moves freely with the engine off? Almost sounds like something is in a bind.

I was thinking the same thing about it being bound up, but when we swapped a new solenoid AND new transfer case, I have to believe that's not the case. We even tried shifting with the drive shafts (both front and rear) removed to see if that was an issue. Nope.

Hoping to get the wiring installed tonight. Have to do a break job on one of my other cars. Hope to have time for both. We'll see.

I'm probably just overly frustrated as I have too many vehicles that all decided to start having issues at the same time.
