Default limp home mode trany problem or result

2004 dakota
4.7
auto trans
high miles
110000 km on factory transmission
magniflow exhaust
Jet performance control module
K&N cold air intake

here is the scenario cursing along just off idle suddenly feel a thump as if you have run over something
check engine light comes on truck is in limp home mode 3rd and 2nd only code p0700 and p0700 pending
code wont clear until you unplug the two connectors in the under hood fuse box the transmission shift fine again
and check engine light can be cleared
truck functions well for up to a week or sometimes 20 minuets
could the transmission fault be a result of something causing limp home mode
ie o2 sensor tps or mass-air
has any one run across this issue
no other codes present except P0700

The thunk is likely just it quickly shifting down to first. If the TPS gives bad data limp mode will activate. The O2 sensors won't activate limp mode. The truck should only have a MAP sensor. If the MAP is failed the truck should stop running or run rough. Limp mode won't activate from that as far as I know. I would bring your truck to someone who has a dealer level scan tool. They will be able to check the actual TCM codes. The p0700 will be set if there is any fault codes in the TCM. Most basic scan tools won't scan the TCM.

What supadoom said. The P0700 is a generic "Go look here" pointer. Very few, if any, consumer-level scan tools can read the TCM.

sorry for the delay getting back ended up on a respirator with covid

anyway did the Chrysler scan tool answer was solenoid A not answering with expected response
being so arbitrarily intermittent the techs opinion is probably a bad wire or splice
Where to start looking
did have a water leak onto the drivers side floor mat i will start there
