Default 97 Dakota flickering Led headlights

I tried searching this but didn't see anything. I switched out my halogens to LEDs. Now they flicker a lot on low beam and intermittently on high beam. Checked all the grounds and connections, all were good. I gave up and finally bought another set but different brand. The first set I pulled out and put in my 05 Xterra and they worked fine. Put the new second set in the Dakota and they flicker as bad if not worse than the first set. I also have LEDs in my 02 Ram and 03 Civic with no problems. Anybody been across this and have any suggestions.

Haven't had any issues with mine and it's been years. Maybe one headlight flickers for a few seconds after being turned on cold, but I think it's a fault with the bulb and it quickly stops. What type of alternator do you have there, cheap parts store brand? You might be seeing an issue with it not providing clean DC, or maybe you have some corroded grounds somewhere.

Something to think about.

@Dodgevity the 00+ headlights are powered through the CTM directly. @464Saloon the 99- headlights are powered directly by the lamp switch, or maybe a relay. Either way, it's not computerized control on the older trucks, while it is on the newer trucks.

I would honestly expect this situation to be reversed. I'm gonna hypothesize that this is an issue stemming in the lamp switch control.

With that said, 464, what fog lights do you have, and did the LED's come with any kind of ballast resistor?

Still has the original alternator 56,000 miles. I tried disconnecting the alternator and they still flicker

It does not have fog lights and no neither brand of LEDs i bought came with a ballast resistor. I am convinced at least now that something about this truck and LEDs don't get along. As I mentioned before I put the first set I got for it in my 05 Xterra and they worked perfectly. This second set in there now flicker just like the first set did. If it is of any help it hardly does it on high beam. Low beam though is really bad.
