I changed the differential fluid after hearing a tad of a whine..Is this a sign of contamination or water or what?
It a 01 3.9 2wd automatic..
An is the torque 30 ftlb on cover? i did 27 but I dont think that will factor

Looks a lot like some water contamination to me.... Is it quieter with clean fluid?

Dodgevity 05-01-2024 10:41 PM

Did you run it in deep water or something? There is a breather tube on top somewhere that water can infiltrate through.

Where is that tube at?

Usually, there is a vent tube that holds the junction block for the rear brake lines to the axle. Should have a hose going to it, that just goes up and ends somewhere near the frame, with a plastic cap on it. (that is supposed to keep it from sucking in water.... doesn't always work. :D )

What he said ^^^. If you didn't run it through deep water, that shouldn't be a factor though.

What else contaminates it.Ill check the hosean valve .No im not going thru any deep water .

HeyYou 05-02-2024 02:34 PM

If it just sits a lot... it may just be from condensation.

Dodgevity 05-02-2024 03:17 PM

Maybe change the fill plug as it's just a rubber bung and might be leaking.
