Default TURBO!?!?!

ok...i need more power. i have a 97 2.5 4cyl 5spd....what i orrigonaly wanted to do was put the 5.2 or 4.7 V8 in it.....but thats a lot of work....i was thinking about a turbo. i have a few Q's.

1. Is there a turbo avalible for the 2.5L, and how much does it cost (ive looked every where)

2. How much more horsepower will it give me.

3. Turbo or V8.. which one should is better for the money and power ?

4. Pro and cons of a turbo?

Thanks for your time

Default RE: TURBO!?!?!

ive done some research on this as i have the 2.5 as well. to tell you the truth i really dont think it would be worth the work or money unless youre doing it for the project itself. probably the same with the v8 swap.
there are turbos that will need less fabrication than others, ive been informed by a few people that old chrysler turbos from 2.5 and 2.2 motors will match close. i think mostly off of le barons and daytonas.
on the other hand you could buy an entirely new turbo (i dont know which) and do a lot of customizing and fabricating.
If youre looking to get enough out of a turbo to really boost you, im fairly confident that you would have to beef up the motor to take the pressure.
Im not an expert but thats how ive understood it through my own attempt to look further.
You may want to check out the turbo forum on this site as well as HMT.com or Homemadeturbo.com.
good luck and let em know how everything goes

Usually N/A blocks aren't built to withstand the pressure of forced induction - typically you can get away with it for a while, but eventually it'll catch up with you and you'll find yourself without an engine.

You should do a little research and see how different the old Turbo blocks are from the one in your truck now - perhaps you could stick one of the 2.2 or 2.5L blocks in and with a simple rebuild get some decent reliable power for less than the cost of a v8 swap.
