Default question about gas mileage

I have a 99 dodge dakota (with a V8 Magnum and automatic Transmission) and usually run between 12 and 16 miles to the gallon. I haven't had a truck long and I was wondering if this is fairly normal for this type of pickup. Also if anyone has any ideas of how to improve this mileage if it is possible I am very interested in your thoughts.

hey

sadly yes, there is little things you could do, like exhaust system, air intake, but the results won't be that great maybe one or two miles, or just a better average... the dakota likes its fuel, we have to face it....

My dakota weighs about as much, if not a little more, than my 86 Ram. They're heavy, have thirsty engines, and when you hit the gas it sucks fuel down quickly. I get 8-10 in the Ram, and 10-16 in my Dakota, both 360 autos, Dakota having OD.
