No spark....
Hello-
I am new to this forum and have a problem that is driving me nuts. I have a 97 dakota 3.9. I parked it for the winter, I drove it to the location where it now sits. I went to start it last week and I have no spark. I have replaced the coil, distributor cap, and the pick up sensor. I also swapped the Auto shut down with the A/C and still nothing. I am lost right now. I have attempted to replace all the things that normally relate to this problem.
Anyone have anyother advice?
Thanks In Advance,
-Dennis

Maybe your computer, we've got a 95 with the same motor at the shop now. Went though it and evidently someone had tried to tune it up and forgot the pick-up plate under the dist cap. Got one of those and still no spark. Found out later after doin some tests that it was the computer not grounding like it should. You'll prob have to take it to a dealer to find out for sure but that is what im guessin!
Well i drive a 99 dakota with a 3.9 and i had the same problem....took it to the dealer i got it at and he went through and through replacing every sensor he could think of. Turned out it was the computer. Free of charge because of New Yorks lemon law but it sucked to find out that was the only problem. Mine kept quitting while i was driving though. I finally talked a friend into getting one instead of the junk chevy's he's been driving so he bought a 97 dakota with a 3.9 and is having the same problem. He also has replaced everything but i am betting it is his computer. Luckily though there is only one computer made for each of the 3 models of the dakota in 97 so it makes it easy to get the right one...unlike mine which has multiple models. Hope this helped!
