Fan clutch?
I am a newbie to the forum, primarily because I have been so happy with my 2000 2 WD 3.9 L V6 Automatic transmission. Brought it in for its 90,000 mile service, and two days later was driving when I had roaring noise with significant torque drain, much like the normal fan clutch being engaged at cold weather startups. Fan was no longer free moving so I had a mechanic switch the fan clutch assembly. Torque definitively got better, but now I am still getting an obnoxiously loud fan roar at every acceleration (irregardless of engine temp), until I am up to 55 mph, then sounds great again. Was wondering if there was anyway to return the fan to the previous volume?
Does it make the same sound accelerating past 55 or does it go away even accelerating past 55? Basically, are you leveling off on acceleration once you hit 55? I ask, because if it does it basically in acceleration but not in "cruise" status, I would think maybe the fan shroud is loose and might be hitting the fan. Also, was the correct fan clutch installed?
Sounds like the fan clutch needs to be broke in. They are usually stiff for the first couple of hundred miles or so.
Also, did he replace the assembly with a termo or non-thermo fan clutch. That could also be your problem.
