Default Truck dieing

I own a 98 v6 dakota 5 spd and ive been having problems recently with it not wanting to run. All the electronics work fine, but when i go to start it, the first try it will make a clicking noise. The next try it will just turn over and not start. The only way to start it is to give it gas and to keep it reved, but as soon as I let off the gas it dies. It does this for 3-5 minutes and then it runs fine with out any problems. I'm thinking it may need a tune up (plugs, wires, fuel filter, etc.) It has about 130,000 miles on it and I've ran fuel system cleaner through it numerous time. Im not gettting any error codes. Will a tune up fix this or is it something more complicated? Thanks for the help.

The clicking sound is usually an indication of a weak or discharged battery. It is not unusual for it to click but still have enough juice to turn it over and eventually get it started. I'd take it in and get one of those free charging system checks at Pep Boys, Checkers, etc.

Could be weak enough that you have trouble keeping her going initially until the alternator gets kicking in and pumping up the battery. I also would do the tune up if you haven't done so in a while. Definitely can't hurt.

Other thing but doubtful could be the starter heading south.

Good luck.
