Default Trouble codes

On my 2001 QC 4.7L I got the trouble code by turningthe key. I got code P0442. It says there is a small leak in the EVAP system. Common sense tells me it could be caused by a loose gas cap. Does anyone have any experience with this code and how they resolved it?
Thanks, Travis

Default RE: Trouble codes

I got P0445 (I think!), it meant a LARGE leak from the same area. I got underneath and couldn't find anything so used my Superchips programer to clear code and Check Engine light on the dash. As it hasn't done it again, I don't think its serious. The only possible explination for mine was that the day before I'd put a bottle of Octane booster in the tank before filling up. As the neck of the bottle isn't long enough to open the little flap in the filler neck, some of the liquid goes down the overflow/breather at the top of the neck. Might be the cause or just coincidence. Did you over fill or top off your tank?, as it might do the same thing. Just a thought!

Hope it helps,

Paul

About two weeks ago I replaced my air filter and added a bottle of infector cleaner to a tank of gas. My check engine light came on this morning on the way to work. Same code as yours, P0442.

When I got home tonight, I popped the hood and found two of my air filter clamps were popped off. I noticed these two didn't snap on like the others when I replaced the air filter. They were kind of screwed up, but after a work-over with some pliers they held tight again. I cleared the code, then drove about 5 miles. Engine light didn't come back on. I have about a 35 mile drive to work and back, tomorrow we'll see if that fixed took care of it.

I've had the gas cap code before, but I can't remember what it was.
QC, same year and engine as yours also.

Speaking of trouble codes.... I can't seem to find the trouble code
list anymore on any WEB site. The one I use to use now whats my
VIN number.. Is that the only way I'm gonna get a list to print out?

Some one lead me in the right direction!
