Default check engine code on a 99 dakota

the check engine light came on a couple of days ago on my 1999 3.9L dodge dakota slt ext. cab. i tried the on off on off on method but still cannot get a code through either the digital odometer or flashing check engine light. does anyone know how to get the code on my year mopar? another question, how high can i go with a spring replacement before a front camber adjustment is a must? any suggestions on cheap power gains besides k&n, flowmaster for my underpowered dakota? sorry for all the questions, but i am sure someone has the answers.

code - i would try going to a reputable parts place (napa, autozone, pepboys) because they'lll usually scan your codes for free. Spring replacement before camber adjust - ? - I don't know, but if you repost someone may know. power gains on 3.9l - check my signature. hope that helps.
