Default Solid Front Axle and Power Options

I'm going to possibly be a owner of a '97 Dakota. 318 Magnum,5spd,4wd,regular cab, short box. The truck is pretty stock with 31s but it'll flat out tot the mail! My buddy owns it and is about to die for the truck I'm driving so I'm quite possibly going to trade. The truck would be mostly a play toy to give heLL lol

I was wondering on options to help out with the power. It is stock other than somebody cut the muffler off and it sounds like poo-poo! Was wondering about headers and true dual exhaust, possible air induction, more fuel, computer or ??? I'm mostly a mid-80s carbratored Dodge owner so this truck is new to me but I do like it. But help me out with names, companies, links etc for power adders!

Then I already know the IFS on the truck stinks out loud. Never have liked IFS and never will on a 4wd lol I searched but didn't find anything about SFA(solid front axle) swaps. I know it'd be possible and I'd want it simple as possible. Figure leaf sprung HP Ford Dana 44 front axle and toss a 9.25 Dodge fullsize axle out back and it'd be leaf sprung on all corners with solid axles and then I could really thrash on the truck in the woods[>:]

Seeing how as I'm thinking of the truck as a hot rod 4wd truck I'm wanting the power but I want tough and simple suspension and IFS and a 8.25 rearend..aint either LOL But I'd definately like advise, opinions etc. Thanks a lot from the new newb

hughesengines, summitracing, etc.

There are some solid axle Dakotas running around, I found a writeup of one through Google.

You can make a ton of power with that 318 keeping it fuel injected.
