Default Jumping to get Codes

I have a 98dakota with a digital dash and the check engine Light keeps coming on mostly when in wet weather i am assuming it is the O2 sensor but i want to know if you can use a jumper to get it to kick out the codes and where to find the codes and what they mean? The other thing is where i live you don't have to have any kinda polution control can you in any way remove and bypass the o2 they always seem to be the thing that messes up where i live i think it is due to the salt/sand they use to clear the roads of snow during winter?

Default RE: Jumping to get Codes

You don't use a jumper.

Insert your key, turn it on, then off, then on, then off then on....don't start the motor while doing this. The codes should show up in the odometer. Older models you would count the flashes of the "Check Engine" light. On my 02 if you hold down the reset button then turn on the ignition key the instrument cluster will go through a check also.
