Default abs and brake light

Today, the abs and brake light came on the instrument panel and won't go off. The owners manual says to "get to a mechanic immediately." Suggestions on possible fixes - such as clearing a code to see if this fixes it - or do I really have a problem?

I had the same problem on my dakota also

I fixed it my putting the truck in park (while on) and engage the parking break and then disengage it

After that the 2 lights went away.

Hope it helps

Same thing happened to my truck. Replace the wheel speed sensor on the top of the rear end housing. Part is aobut $35 at the dealer and easy to do yourself. No special tools required.

just had the same prob. right on the 3rd member where the speed control sensor mounts , leave the sensor in but there is a conector going from the wires on the sensor to the wires from the harness , you can remove this 8 inch section with no tools and you may find that you have lost connection at the conectors i repaired mine my self ,part runs 50 bucks ,light comes on when open circuit is detected

If your connections are good, replace the sensor. If the sensor's bad, your speedometer won't work until you get to 35 mph and you'll have the brake and ABS lights. Also, if you have power door locks, the auto lock feature won't work until the speedometer kicks on.

Default RE: abs and brake light

i am having the problem it seems like every third start.

What happens is that the abs and brake light are on.

But when my the abs/parking light is on the speedometer, radio, windows, windshield wiper, did not work. I have no idea what is going on.

The time that the abs and parking brake light does not come on everything works just fine.

Thanks for any help
