Default Brakes

I was changing my pads and was trying to tighten the caliper bolt and notice the bottom one would not tighten. I took the caliper off and realized that the tread inside the hole is strip. Can anyone give me any ideas how to fix this? Will I have to replace that whole caliper bracket (Is that what it's called?) Will the over-sized caliper bolt work? Any advice would help.

Thanks!

Default RE: Brakes

I ran into the stripped lower caliper threads on both sides of my truck. 2001 Dakota. When my truck was in for the ball joint recall I let them replace my front brakes. They put in new rotor and pads. I wasn't having any trouble but they said the rotors were rusty etc so I bit. A few weeks later I started having the shaking front end and suspected from things I read that the rotors were warped so bought some aftermarket higher end ones. After discovering both lower caliper bolts were stripped I'm guessing the shaking was from loose calipers and not neccesarily warped rotors but then I'm thinking why would the bolts just self strip like that, maybe from therotors being warped and shaking the crap out of the calipers? Anyway I got the Napa oversize bolts and put them in but have heard that this should only be a temporary solution and the long term fix must be replacing the mounts that the calipers attach to or do the helicoil fix. Am I correct in that the Helicoil is a strong and permanent repair?

I just ended up replacing the whole spindle. Cost me 50 bucks from the auto yard.
