Rev's go drop when turning the wheel
Hey Guys! I HAVE A 99 DAKOTA SPORT 4X4 STICK SHIFT, AND FOR SOME REASON WHENEVER I TURN THE WHEEL, EVEN WHEN AT A COMPLETE STOP WHEN I STRAIGHTEN THE WHEELS OUT, THE REVS ON MY TACHOMETER DROPS FROM LIKE 800 TO ABOUT 500, THEN JUMPS UP TO MAYBE 1100 OR 1200, THEN DROPS TO 7 OR 8 AGAIN. ALSO, THE IDLE HAS BEEN VERY ROUGH LATELY, I GOT A MANIFOLD GASKET REPLACED ON IT ABOUT A MONTH AGO WHICH COST ME OVER 700 BUCKS AND WAS SUPPOSED TO FIX THE BAD IDLE. ANY THOUGHTS? THANX GUYS, I REALLY NEED THE ADVICE.
Its normal for the rpms to drop when you turn the wheel while stopped. When you turn the wheel, the power steering pump starts working harder and it slows the motor a bit.
Thanx a lot for the info, i was worried about it for some reason but that makes sense. As for the rough idle, i was told by a buddy to check my O2 sensor....sorry for the ignorance but how do i do that? I am new to owning my own vehicle and even newer to trucks in general. thanx to everyone who has replied to my stupid questions so far, i appreciate it.
