Expecting to find a truck, especially a 4x4, with less then 70k on it for under 10k is asking too much. Quite frankly, your best bet is to find something on a lot you can finance at this point. Unless you get a luck encounter and someone says they'll sell you a great truck for cheap because they want something new, I doubt your going to have much luck in finding what you want.

I wanted a 2nd Gen body (1997 to 2004), more or less like you, a 1999 or newer, V-8, 4x4. I quickly found out that, I just didn't have the money for it.
I found a 1st Gen body (still like the style), 1996, V-6, automatic, 4x4, extended cab, with 86,000 miles for $6K (they wanted $8K, no way for a 10 year old Dakota). 86K for a 10 year old truck is great!
My friend found, and bought, a '95 Dakota regular cab, with same miles, automatic, 2WD, and a 318 (5.2 V-8) for appx. $3800. (And believe me, this family usually just buys new vehicles, and would typically avoid any used vehicle over 5 years old, or more than 50K miles.)
3.9L is the same as the 5.2L, just 2 less cylinders. These engines, if you take care of it (oil changed) will easily last 200K miles with no problems.
I've had my Dakota for almost 6 months now, and I love it! The only problems is shows are normal age and mileage-related (and not many of those, either!). The only thing I would change is going from the 3.9L V-6 to the 5.2L V-8, but, like I said, sometimes you just have to settle.
Hope you find something you like. You won't be disappointed by your Dakota, which ever one you may get.
good luck finding a good lookin truck with under 60k miles for that much. my dad and i have identicle trucks (quad cab 4.7 liter 4x4 automatic) his is a company truck and has 198k miles and becuase it is a company truck he floores it to every stop light and he changes his oil every 5,000 miles instead of three and that truck has never gone in for anything besides an oil change, and while he was in mississippi after the hurricane he put 50k miles on it in 4 wheel drive so i suggest getting the 4.7, the dual over head cam is very reliable. but personally the quad cab was given to me and im trying to get my hands on a regular cab 5.9 R/T. anybody got one. i want to sell my dak for $12,900 OBO.
To bad your back in Indiana, I just let my 2003 Club Cab SXT 3.9 go for trade in on a newer dakota at the dealer for 9,700.00 and what sucks is they have it on the lot now all detailed out for 15,990.00 I would of much rather sold it for the 9,700 to someone and not the dealer but for the most part it is so hard to find someone with more than 5k cash when it comes to buying/selling used to I took the loss just to not have to deal with it on my own, good luck finding a dakota.....PS my 3.9 was a great truck.
