Default air intake temperature sensor

my truck started idling funny when i first start it up but it does not do it when its warmed up. it would rev up then almost stall out sometimes. i never have any other problems driving it, it seems to run fine. i took it to get looked at and they said the air intake temp sensor was not working and was reading the wrong temps, causing it to run weird, not too bad yet but it will get worse. they wanted to charge me $300 to have this sensor replaced. how much is this sensor and do i really need to replace it now? chances are it will get worse over time and i'll need to fix it but i dont think its worth $300 to have them do it. i know where theres a sensor on the intake, is it just that easy to get to and replace or should i have them do it?

depending on your year. it is costly. try looking into the junk yard first. the sensor is about 1.5 inches long and has a probe that measure the amount of cool air going into intake. this will adjust your fuel air mixture. try unpluging it first and see how the truck runs. if its to lean you will notice it.

its a 2000 with the 4.7. this sensor they were talking about is the IAT, is it not? its located on the intake tubing after the air filter somewheres before the throttle body, right? should be easy to replace. i looked on napaonline.com and i think i found the part "Ambient Air Temperature Sensor" for $36. i think this part is right. what would it do if i disconnect it and run the engine, would it run lean and stall out or run faster and wouldnt it cause the engine light to come on?[IMG][/IMG]

oops, posted the pic twice! that pic dosnt look like what i thought it should. here is another, i think this is what it looks like and where its located. i think this 4.7 is a newer model, so it may be slightly different.[IMG][/IMG]
