Default 2000 Dakota w/4.7L and FT4WD Club Cab A/C Problem

Well after 6 years of undying loyalty, my AC systems has finally given up.

I noticed this morning that the A/C was blowing warm air. I went to Napa and got a 2oz can of DYE/LUB/134a. When I hooked the can up to the low side, I noticed that it continually cycles from 65 (Danger) to 25 (Add refridgerant). It is about a 10 to 15 second cycle. Every time the compressor kicks on, it goes down to 25, then the compressor shuts off and it goes to 65 at which point the compressor comes on and it goes down to 25 again. It's the never ending cycle of warm air!

Anyway. I looked all over with the little black light I have and its not anywhere on the top side of the engine, on any of the lines, on the compressor, or on the firewall. The intersting thing is, where the air conditioner takes a pee on the ground, there is either DYE or mold. Im not sure if it is the die that is in the puddle of water on the ground, or if there is mold in my A/C system inside where it drains out (sometimes it stinks like mold and sometimes i hear water sloshing around when i turn - but not always). I dunno what's up, anyone have any suggestions? What would make the compressor cycle on and off and the refridgerent pressure cycle back and forth like that???

ssss

Default RE: 2000 Dakota w/4.7L and FT4WD Club Cab A/C Problem

i'd rather go to a reputable shop and have the a/c system check and or evac and recharge.....you may have air in your system(uncompressable).....if you do the over the counter refrigirant....you can't do the vacuum and leak check.....

ok here is the run down.......(am a tech and i do this on a daily basis).........first i will do a evac/recovery of you refrigirant,......second i will pull vacuum up to 30 in/hg and i will put in dye and then pressurize your system w/ refrigirant(how much?...depending on the spec of your a/c sys) and then get the vehicle running and see if there is any cold air coiming out(assuming you got cold air then), i will get the uv light and check for any visible leaks, then lastly i will see if you have any minute leaks(we have a refirigirant leak detector at the shop).....

by the way make sure that your compressor and fan(electric) is running when you turn your a/c on

hope i helped
