Won't stay running
This morning my 2000 dakota wouldn't start. I thought it was the battery so got a new one. After driving it for a few hours it stalled. I had to have someone hook up cables to get it started again and then it would stall a few miles down the road. Eventually the only way it runs at idle is when i pump it gas. I'm not sure where to start with the diagnosis. Any help would be appreciated, thanks! Oh, it also a v6 auto.
alternator is going. this is whats keeps the battery charged to keep motor running. its not like the old days when you could remove battery cable and engine stays running. if there is not sufficent power to the pcm it will stall.alternator should put out 136 amps or more. simple to check with a guage. or any auto parts store has the tools to check.
