Default Oil Pressure 2003 Dak Quad 4.7

Hey all. I just got a new ride this weekend. I traded my '98 2.5, which I really hated to say goodbye to. Anyway, I asked the service guy about the oil pressure being at half all the time, even when I excellerate as with my other truck it would be at slightly under 1/2 and when in higher speed would be at 90%. He told me that this was the way it should be as this truck is an automatic and my '98 was manual. Well, I don't know about that as my boyfriend has a '94 Chrysler Plymouth Voyager 3.6 automatic and it does the same way as my '98.So...what is the correct reading I should have at idle and excelleration?
Thanks a bunch!![8D]

welcome to the board. and nice truck by the way. oil pressure should be at about 40-45psi all the time. it will drop a little at idle but should not drop significantly. hope this helps

Well, it kinda helps except it doesn't move at all. When I first start it up, the gauge goes up to the 1/2 mark and stay's there...even at an idle and even when I'm at a faster rate.

I had the same problem with my 99 5.2. It would rise to 40 and never move. It took 3 trips to the dealership to convince them something was wrong. Turns out it was a defective oil pressure sending unit. Fortunately it was still under warranty so no cost. Now I run around 60 lbs when driving and never lower than 40 when idling. If you or a friend can connect a manual oil pressure guage you can get a truer reading of what really is going on pressure wise.

Yeah, that's what I think it is but of course being a woman they think you're an idiot! I'm just going to call the Dodge dealer where I live and see if they say the same thing. I just now got my DSL going today or I would have replied sooner.
Have a great day!
