Default Straight Pipes on my 3.9

I'm thinking of running straight pipes on my V6 dakota. I know it's gonna be really loud and raspy sounding, but is it gonna sound like ****? I want to run a 2.5 in pipe off each manifold and bring it out right in front of the rear tire and just put a dual outlit tip on each side. I'm going for the loud, cracking, raspy sound of a V6 race car. Anyone else have experience with this?

kinda like this...

xxxxx 0|V|0
xxxxx |6|
xxxxx / \

xxxx 0 0

*edit* the damn thing screwed up my pic, but you get the idea. Just slide the lines over until it lines up

I think its gonna sound like a derby car. I would atleast throw a muffler on that. try a flowmaster, or go buy some cheap mufflers and throw them on. straight pipe v6 does not sound good. I had the Y pipe fall off my 88 dakota 3.9 and it sounded and looked like a derby truck.

A muffler will just mellow out the sound so much, I'm scared that on a V6 it'll eliminate way too much noise. What about a glasspack, how will that sound?

ya i guess you can try it. and if its still stupid loud you can change it. cause once the glasspack burns out its just like straight pipes again. since its only a beater i'd try it, you wont be out too much money if it doesnt work. I have a flowmaster on mine with a turndown and i think it was just right. not too loud and not to quiet.

The thing is, I don't mind stupid loud. But if it's gonna sound awful, I don't want that. When I go to get it done I'll just have them cut down the stock pipe and I'll listen to it then. If its bad, I'll put a muffler on. What muffler is going to be the least restrictive as far as flow and performance?

I think you're going to lose your low end torque. dual 2.5" is way too big for a 3.9.

But that's all I'm going to say about it.

What size would you reccomend? 2 in?

I'm open to suggestions. Performance is my first priority, sound is just a plus.

I agree [&:] A 3.9 doesn't have a lot of displacement to work with. 2.5" is too big...and dual pipes are just a bad idea in general for a low displacement motor. You slit the pulse up and lose a lot of your scavenging effect. Not to mention it sounds terrible [&:] An H-pipe would help with some of that, but not enough in my opinion.

From someone who has experience with exhaust on their 3.9L, what setup would you reccomend for the best performance/most flowing that would also be as loud as possible. As far as the quality of the sound I'd like it to have a nice rumble at idle and a raspy crackling sound when reved up. (It's a stick, so it reaches those high rpms pretty often)

just run a single 2 1/4" or 2 1/2", duals are too much for a 3.9.
