Here is a good one i have a 2000 dakota v8 4x4. it is all time 4x4 with 4 high lock and 4 low lock and just 4x4. I have always had it in 4x4 and the front drive shaft went bad so i removed it to get it repaired and now the truck will not go it is like it is in nutral unless i put it in 4 lock. is this thing usally front wheel drive until uyou put it in 4 lock or do i have prob...one thing i did notice is this thing runs like a bat outa hell now i kinna like it lol.

In AWD mode the center differential is completely open, so if you remove the front shaft all of the torque is going to find the easiest path, which is the front stub with no resistance. It's just like an open rear diff if you jack one tire off the ground.

Not really. Park just keeps the tranny from spinning. If you have an open center differential with no front driveshaft there's nothing to keep the rear axle from causing the front output shaft to spin the opposite direction. It's like putting one rear tire up in the air - even though the truck is in park you can still roll around because that tire up in the air. You'd have to push the truck though, it wouldn't drive itself.
