A few guys I know will attach a rod that hangs down below the bottom of the grill. That way when the hood is popped they can get their hand underneath is and open it that way. Let me look for pics.

EDIT. Here is a thread walkthrough some made up. http://www.dakotausa.com/vBulletin/s...ad.php?t=25124

This one is better I think. Much better pics. http://www.dakotausa.com/vBulletin/s...ght=hood+latch

my kit from carrige works came with a hood opener extension. The only problem is it was for older model dakotas like in the 97 to 99 series you need a diffrent set up for the 2000 -2004 setup. But you can still use a long objext to slip between the grill to puh the lever as a temp fix until you can put a long rod with a curve at the end on.

I made a release rod for mine only it went to the side. When I popped the hood, All I had to do was lift the hood slightly (enough to get my finger into the opening at the side of the hood) and pull the rod.
