2000 Daktoa Shifter Knob
I have looked all over the net in search for how to remove the shifter **** from my 5 spd Dakota. Some places have said you just turn it really hard, and it might come off, but I couldn't get it. Other places say you remove the little shift pattern off the top of the **** and you will find a nut to remove, but again, no luck I couldn't remove the shift pattern, it wouldn't budge.
Has anyone had any real experience in taking the shift **** off on a 2000 Dakota?
Thanks,
Branden Cash

Wow that was a quick reply
I figured that is probably where it would most likely be. Do have any tips for getting that off, is it just a tight fit or is it glued on there or what.
Thanks for any help.

its been a couple years since i took it off, but i think its just a real tiight fit. i honestly forget how i got mine off but i'm almost positive u have to remove the cap.
Well I just tried it again, and I got it to turn, but it wouldn't come out, but again I only tried for 5-10 minutes then I was sweating to death, its hot in Arizona even at 9pm.
Do you have to actually stick the knife or what ever between the rubber and the plastic shift pattern or is it just in the little groove right at the top where the rubber and plastic are visible without any tools?
Thanks again, I feel much more confident of how to do it than before, so hopfully I will get it soon.

Nevermind, I got it. A flat head screwdriver works alot better, I was using a little dinky pocket knife, and was trying not to bend it, I also didn't realize there was a lip underneath the rubber part. I will get pictures just to make it clear for anybody else who is having trouble like or are just too stupid to think of there being a lip instead of just like a plastic cover.
Thanks for your help, now I know that I can replace it so I can go ahead and pick up a shift **** tomorrow.
