Default tires

i just bought a used 2003 qc with a 5.9 and it came wth 235/70 mich cross terrains. im looking to replace those with 245/70 goodyear ranglers silent armor or bfg a/t. price isnt a problem as they cost about the same but the bfg are so heavy im wondering what kind of effect that will have on performance, plus i love the way the goodyears look. any comments or suggestions?

Just one man's experience, BUT, my Dak ate the factory Goodyear Wranglers AT/S tires up in 25,000 miles. That was despite alignments, frequent rotations, and no unusual abuse. I replaced with BFGs ATs (32x11.5) and have been very satisfied with the wear for 35k miles. They are a little noisier but not so loud that it interfers with the radio, normal conversations in the cab, etc. I've been in some pretty serious mud and snow and never got stranded or had to winch out. And, surprisingly, I made it up a totally iced hill when other 4x4s would get about halfway up only to slide back. Because I went to from 31" Goodyears to 32" BFGs I did notice a difference in off the line performance and braking. But engine upgrades have more than returned the power performance. I replaced front rotors and went to ceramic pads up front and NAPA "premium" on rear drums and haven't had a problem with braking since. My vote is the BFGs.

i just recently put the bfg 33" t/a ko series on my 2wd and went into "holy jim" canyon over the past weekend. i had no troubles at all which is pretty impressive for a 2wd in that location. the road noise is much less than what i expected. i have noticed acceleration and braking slow down but thats what you should expect when you do a tire upgrade like that.

I've got about 20k on my Yokohama Geolandar AT+II's and I love them. I was going to get BFG's but the guys at the tire shop talked me out of them. They all run the Yokos instead too. I've still got a TON ot tread left on mine, and it's a heavy 4x4 quad cab with the 360.
