5.9 R/T Performance Questions
Ok well i just got the hypertech III, i searched the net for a answer but coudnt get one, so ill ask here to see if anyone knows.
Does the programmer only change the options you input, for instance on mine it lets me change from eather 87 or 93 octane, i use 93 so i choose it. It also lets me change the Rev limiter i changed it to +500 and it also lets me change the tire size, but i didnt there the factory tires. And the top speed limiter i changed it to 128.
Saved and it installed correct i know that all works, but when you first boot up the programmer it installs the hypertech programmer to your computer when it does that does it change any settings from reading your VIN like fuel to air ratio, fan temps.. and **** like that? I guess what im trying to say does it install other things to computer just buy installing the hypertech software to the car comp? Or only the settings you choose? If you can answer that.. it would be great.
Also ive been thinking of either twin turbo or supercharge the truck, what do you guys think would be better. Ive had ALOT of mixed thoughts.
and one last thing. When i floor it from a dead stop it goes through first gear fine, and SOMETIMES 2nd will stick and readline and not shift. I was thinking it was trans problems, but i think it might be stretched links.. it only does it sometimes, but i can tell cuz useally it shifts and 5.5 rpm so if i see it go past that point i left off the gas then re floor it and it works fine. So i dont know what the hell its doing lol. I just boosted the grear redlines about +500rpm and it still does it. So w/e ill ask here. I hope its not the trans or ill just convert it to standerd if i have to.

Hey welcome to the forum it looks like you have some good advice going out to others. I would say that the shifting problem is due to your shifter cable being too tight. I have had that problem a couple times in my D after getting the tranny rebuilt. If I were you I'd loosen it up a little and see how it does. Keep doing that until it works, mine was downshifting 2 gears instead of 1 and hitting 550 rpm's I would let off the gas and then start going again like there was no problem. As far as the hypertech programmer I wish I had one so that I would know.
welcome to the forum...
cant help much on the tranny issue you have but the hypertech works like this... when you select all of your options when going thru the menus it'll setup the program it's going to swap out on your pcm. what it does is it reads and stores your pcm program, then downloads the new program into the pcm. it'll stay that way until you return it to stock or want to make a change.
if you or anyone else goes to buy a used programmer, you have to make sure the seller returned it to stock before he sells it. otherwise your buying a paper weight.

It is to the left of the throttle body. It is the cable right next to the throttle. I have only watched my mechanic fool around with it since it is under their warranty anyway.
